Ed Krumeich.....He's Baaack!

Today two time loser Ed Krumeich threw his hat in the ring for Selectman. The fact that the Dems need to keep dragging this guy out says something about the state of that party. Meanwhile, the Republicans have more qualified candidates than slots for the BOE, BET and Selectman offices showing the strength and health of the party.

In his announcement Big Ed whined about Peter Tesei's politicization of the Selectman's Advisory Committee. The fact is, Tesei has been blocking its politicization by the Dems. They have been, under Lavery's stewardship, using it to staff Boards and Commissions with liberals who could not otherwise win in a general election. The Committee is what its name indicates...advisory.

In his prior run Krumeich fell short by 132 votes to Dolly Powers who didn't so much as put out a lawn sign. In 2008 Fred Camillo gave him a good old fashioned whooping taking every district. Ed will fall again and hopefully then we will hear the end of this guy.

Health of the Republican Party in Greenwich? Give me a break! You're sliding excessively in registration, you have a severe right/center split that makes you look disorganized and in disarray, and you rely on the stupid putdown in the absence of anything important to say. The ironic thing is that Peter Tesei is probably your only public figure who doesn't act like that and you are eating him alive

The excessive tax and spend attitude of Mr. Krumeich will seal his fate yet again. He and the other Dems on the BET wanted to raise the mill rate by a couple of points higher than the Republicans on the Board. He's right, he has a record that can and will be examined.

I think a good measure of a parties health is the strength of it's candidates. Odd that you avoided commenting on that aspect of my post....

The Dems big guns like Himes and Lamont were not able to win Greenwich. What makes anyone think that Krumeich can?

I acknowledge Eye on Greenwich's author as having nearly every right to say what s/he chooses. So, permit me to respond by offering the classic rejoinder spoken by one of our former Secretaries of State when challenged by a thin analysis from a partisan "commentator" in a radio interview: "stunningly superficial."

Let's review the bidding: "two-time loser," "dragging this guy out," "Big Ed" and "whined." Are these the words of reason or invective, adult behavior or childish name-calling? "We report, you decide."

Ed Krumeich's comments have always been thoughtful throughout his quarter century of public service. Lin Lavery has succeeded in doing everything possible to earn the trust of the electorate by standing firmly for the health and safety our children and those of our neighbors' children... a not surprising approach when you consider it matches her seemingly limitless energy and persuasive leadership that she brought to Kids in Crisis. Let's hear more--a lot more--from Ed and Lin before jumping to any stunningly superficial conclusions... please. Who knows, you just might get to like these extraordinary folks if you don't first come with guns loaded for bear.

As my mother used to tell me "jumping to conclusions gives you flat feet." Lord knows I've got 'em... too!

This is the sort of meanness and ugliness that so characterizes the Republican Party today. Ed Krumeich is a highly intelligent man, an accomplished attorney and full partner for many years in one of Connecticut's leading law firms, a graduate of Hamilton College, and a citizen who has devoted many years of his life to the service of the town of Greenwich. He has served with energy, wisdom and dignity for years on the Board of Estimates and Taxation. Whether or not one agrees with his political views, the sort of vicious ad hominem attack that this site slings against him is wrong.

Let's be clear that Mr. Krumeich would probably be vying for governor or United States senator right now had he abandoned his hometown to live in one of the Democratic towns that make up the overwhelming majority of this state and New England. His intelligence and hard work would certainly have earned him election to higher office in most of this state's municipalities. And as one can see from the experience of Ned Lamont and Jim Himes, they have but to appeal to a wider base of voters outside of Greenwich for their talent and views to be accepted. But Mr. Krumeich has chosen to raise his family in the town in which he was raised, in which his parents lived all their lives, but which just happens to have a large plurality of Republican voters. Yet even with that large Republican plurality, Ed Krumeich has stepped forward to offer the people of this town a choice, to debate the major issues we face and to challenge the Republican Party's orthodoxy. And given the steady decline in Republican registration in Greenwich over the past decade, it is clear that an increasing number of town residents are coming around to his and Democratic views. If you wish to vote for the Republican candidate, so be it. But Ed Krumeich does not deserve to be demeaned as this site's author has here.

Let's also be clear that Peter Tesei is most assuredly politicizing the nominating committee by breaking precedent observed by both his Republican and Democratic predecessors that no serving executive of either the Democratic or Republican town committees should be appointed to that body. He ignored that practice, and now is bypassing the committee altogether to find members to appoint for new committees he's forming.

Thank you to the DTC for checking in...Now that the big dog wouldn't/couldn't hunt I guess you'll be busy beating the weeds for your second choice. Good luck with that...

It's remarkable that this group lecture on civility...They routinely daemonize Republicans as a matter of course. In fact, that is the primary political strategy of this group starting with Rahm Emanuel on down...

Remember the old Chinese expression: "When you point the finger at another you have three fingers pointing back at you"?

It's convenient, woefully incorrect, and a non sequitur to assert that "they [Democrats?] routinely daemonize (sic) Republicans as a matter of course." Please indicate where any of the comments within this exchange have demonized a Republican. Am I missing something that is offensive to Republicans? I did hear words of praise of a Democrat, but no denigration of the opposition.

Really? Have you read any letters to the editor in the Greenwich Time? You behave yourself here to attempt to make a point, but you are too cute by half....

Ed's problem is his habit of saying nasty things about his political opponents. When you say stuff about Fred Camillo, one of the most well liked guys in town, you are DONE.
